An introductory teaching and learning plan in both Te Reo Māori and English

This teaching and learning plan has been developed for ākonga with whakapapa Māori. It is aimed at curriculum levels 5-8 (approximately year 11-13) however kaiako can easily adapt or extend activities according to level, their own rohe and curriculum. This teaching and learning plan provides opportunity for some foundational learning, but can and should be extended and adapted according to local knowledge, context and curriculum wherever possible.

The purpose of this teaching and learning plan is to explore tikanga, processes, language and kōrero tuku iho related to Māori earth pigments.

Through this teaching and learning plan, ākonga will learn;

·         Kōrero whakapapa relating to earth pigments

·         Historical practices and processes related to earth pigments

·         Types of earth pigments and relevant names and terminology

·         Tikanga for gathering earth pigments

·         Processes relating to the preparation of earth pigments

·         How to document processes
